food taboos

I am very enamoured of this poster that L brought back from her exotic travels. And because your well-being is important to me, I thought I'd share it with you. Remember now, no star fruit with chocolate - and positively no parrot with gourd, or you'll be ill.

Isn't 'Indian trumpet' a euphemism for something for which you pay extra in a brothel in Streatham?

But I'm all for banning the simulatneous consumption of cucumbers and ice lollies. That way lies madness and anarchy and the recent career of Steve Martin.

Are these actual taboos or is it about food that heats and food that cools? Nowt wrong with pigeon and ginger, nor coconut and honey.

Tim, looking at the Indian trumpet, I'm sure you could request it in a Streatham brothel, no bother. I know, cucumber and ice lolly - it'll only lead to trouble.

Llewtrah - no no no - it is THE FOOD THAT SHOULDN'T EAT TOGETHER.

Damn! There goes my plan for having gourd and parrot for dinner tonight...

I think we should ditch words like 'beef', 'mutton' and so on, and instead use 'meat(cow)' and 'meat(sheep)'.

Actually, no one should eat star fruit, it tastes so bland. It's probably like pulling a bimbo, the outside looks great but there's no brain or personality once you hit the sack.

As long as "gin" and "tonic" shouldn't eat together I'm happy.

Alda, I know, it's buggered up my weekly shop I can tell you.

QE - I agree. Think how much more intelligible menus would be in classy restaurants.

Hi EmmaK - you're right, star fruit are pretty but taste-free, like many a celeb these days.

Billy, you don't like gin with tonic? (Gin is supposed to make you cry, I don't know why.)

I spent three weeks in one Eastern European country back in the early 90s. As a not-meat-eating person I had a diet of canned fish and something which vaguely looks like that Indian trumpet. I lost lots of weight... hmm, I think I just invented a new fashion diet based on your lovely poster.

Annie,

I was once friendly with a gourd but I never knew a parrot. Phew.

When I say friendly, I don't mean friendly in the biblical sense. That would be against Holy Father's teachings.

I once knew someone with a parrot that had no feathers, well none below its neck. So I said to my friend, why has that parrot got no feathers below its neck and he said because it can't reach all the way up.

Was never sure who was the one in most distress.

Taiga, great - now we've just got to think of a name more catchy than the 'canned fish and Indian trumpet diet' and we can market it for millions!

Dan, I don't understand about the parrot, and I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

Oops, I meant as long as gin and tonic weren't on the poster I'd be happy. I like gin and tonic.
