Run run run

“The first time I see a jogger smiling, I'll consider it.” Joan Rivers

Never imagined I'd ever ever consider it, but as I walked home through the park, sun shining, ipod playing, and it has to be said, seeing just how many cute men with nice bums there are jogging through it, I thought, I shall buy myself some trainers and run after the cute men, that'll be an incentive.

So, good songs for running to - let's have 'em.

In fact, the Velvet Underground's Run Run Run would probably work - heh. It doesn't have to have Run in the title though.

Running? Yikes, I've just worked out that I last did running at school age 15, nearly half of my life ago.

I'd just go walking in the park, you can still do the music and the perving with none of the out of breath stuff.

That said, music for running I'd recommend The Knife or Beck; off the top of my head.

Hurry Up Harry by Sham 69.

Survivor - Eye Of the Tiger. But you have to wear a velour plaited headband and punch the air every 20 steps just for authenticity ;-)

With all the work on that face, I'm surprised Joan Rivers has the option of not smiling.

running?

i took up jogging (pronounced yogging) as my new year's resolution. it's horrible. i hate it. i reckon the puddles of puke around town aren't from drunken teenagers at all, but from overambitious and underfit joggers.

i can only assume that running is like jogging times ten.

sick.

Wyndham - oooh, miaow. And they say we're bitchy.(though must confess
Joan is increasingly like the Joker in Batman.)

Rosie, no no no! I'm as likely to run as I am to fly. Jogging is what I meant - I reckon people who say they go running (unless they're like, Olympic athletes) are fooling themselves...

Christ, woman, you're rampant.

I used to work at a running magazine, and we took a poll. The theme from Chariots of Fire pissed over every other contender. I think our readers must have run in slow motion.

I run around Finsbury Park at weekends. Well, I run for a bit, walk for a bit, run for a bit, walk for a bit. So I guess it averages out at jogging. I listen exclusively to drum n bass. The following really do the trick:

High Contrast - Make It Tonight
High Contrast - Racing Green
Logistics - The Trip
Jenna G - Quick Love
Slam - Girl In The Fire

It is hellish in bad weather though. I gave up on Saturday after being buffetted by galeforce winds and horizontal rain. Nuts to that.

Can't you get a cab and shout at them out the window?

Tim - I used to imagine Chariots of Fire on the treadmill at the gym, which is deeply sad.

Del - genius! I never thought of running to drum n bass. Two rhythms, for fast and slow...

Pleite - 'Orrright darlin' cor, don't get many of them to the pound' - that kind of thing? Yes, I could do that.

That's a bloody brilliant running list Ist!

I would download anything dancy. I know it sounds cheesy but I downloaded the new Britney album - I know, I know it's pretty sad at my age but I am telling you it gets you moving. I listen to it when walking to work.

(*exhaustedly retypes lost-somewhere comment*) I hadn't thought of you as the taxi-driver, but, yes, you could holler, "Call that runnin'? My fuckin' granny could do better." Although, admittedly, it might not be the best tactic if you wanted to get busy with them shortly thereafter.

I suppose it depends what pace you're planning to run at. The fact that Del runs to drum 'n' bass suggests he is a powerhouse runner. Being quite old, I'd prefer to jog at a very sedate pace, so I'd choose the Funeral March, appropriately enough.

Istvanski - that'll see me all the way round Victoria Park, thank you!

Sar - never diss Britney! She can still make a comeback, keep the faith.

Betty, me too. Or some nice easy listening maybe.
