Reasons to like the theatre

Went with L to see The Royal Hunt of the Sun at the National Theatre. Great staging, costumes, sexy actor from Green Wing with his shirt off, vague political parallels between Spanish invasion of Peru for gold with American invasion of Iraq for oil, etc etc etc... but look at the view from the bar!* London can be a hard city to live in but there's nothing like a Waterloo sunset to make it seem worth it.

*It's a really nice bar, plus this beautiful view of the Thames - if you skip the play you could have the balcony all to yourself.

The Kinks knew what they were talking about. This view was quite literally the only thing that cheered me when I worked in Waterloo, beautiful in the morning too...

I'm just trying to make you feel homesick Em so you'll come back to visit. Oh wait a minute, you are! Hurray!

Hurray indeed, can we go to this bar? Please, can we? Please??

PS - the secret word password thing was "Jiblo" - made me laugh, not quite sure why! Sounds like a Jo-Lo shaped chicken nugget or summit, something for MaCains or Birdseye to think about there. As a teacher, I'm sure you would heartily endorse our young folk eating reconstituted breaded meat products in the shape of pop stars - no?

We can and we shall.

This sounds like an idea of marketing genius. And it doesn't sound far from what they serve up as our school dinners already, just not in the shape of J-Lo - not yet anyway. Get on the phone to Birdseye pronto!

What?? You mean you haven't had the Jamie Oliver scrutiny in your canteen? Is Bow a little bit too earthy for him? And there I was thinking he was a true Cockney - just goes to show!

I used to live in Waterloo when higher powers paid my rent. I had that view for 18 months give or take.

It's a great view.

No way Em - he's a posh boy. He would have heart failure if he saw what they have for lunch.

Oh my lord, Adrian. Was it that big old white building? I always wondered what it would be like to live right in the city.

Am I the only one who thinks Jamie Oliver is the reincarnation of Robin Askwith in those awful Confessions movies? I only noticed this when I saw JO playing drums in his ghastly Britpop band, and was reminded of Confessions Of A Pop Performer.

And I'm homesick too. Sunset on the Chao Prya is good, but Ray never wrote about it. Sha-la-la...

Yeah, the one opposite the Royal Festival Hall. It was an £1100 per week apartment, that I wasn't paying for and had £6000 drapes (made from copper)

I loved those days.

How in the good-god-dang do you make drapes out of copper?! That's nearly as bad as the gold-plated cutlery in your flat in Amsterdam last year.

I like sunsets in Dublin the best. They last for hours. But I'm biased.

I went to university just the other side of Waterloo bridge. Many an hour was whiled away by the promenade in front of the NFT, looking at the book market under the bridge, or otherwise wandering around.

I'll never look at him the same way now Tim. Aw, don't be homesick, at least you have proper sunshine.

£6000 copper drapes? Adrian, we demand pictures. And Matt, golden cutlery? Is Adrian in fact King Midas?

QE, tch, students! I kind of envious you went to college in London. I'd have liked to but it would have meant continuing to live at home...

I am infact, the king of Sleaze. I thought you knew.

Great view indeed. It... wait a second, £6000 drapes? I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of those.

I had missed it when I first read this comments.
Guess with those drapes the fancy dressing and the photos by the window were mandatory! ;)
