Heresy

So... Wordpress... what are our thoughts?

I think you should ask Adrian about hosting your blog using Moveable Type. It's pretty good, from my experience, and Adrian will take care of all the horrible techy bits.

Wordpress looks classy and screams professionalism, but I've got a terrible lingering affection for Blogger. Not looking forward to having to move to Beta Blogger, though.

Take two aspirin.

Matt - hmmm, but Wordpress is free, and I'm a cheapska - um, very poor.

Patroclus, me too, I fear Blogger Beta, which is why I'm thinking about a change.

A cryptic comment from Greavsie - does this mean it's a headache?

Wordpress is great. Do it.

So far so good, I think, although it has managed to lose one of my first posts. But, all in all, better. And, before you go beta-blogger, it will happily import all your posts (but not links, unless I've missed something) for you so you don't have to lose all your posts here.

A decisive yes from Dragon, I like it.

BiB! You had me worried there for a moment. Great minds think alike hey? Liking your new place a lot.

I am old and do not understand.
beta is ok really

Why exactly should I fear Beta? Please someone tell me because I'm too lazy to find out myself.

Realdoc, you are not old, you are a spring chicken. I know it's okay really, but I fear change...

Wyndham, I've heard different things - that people have trouble commenting on Beta blogs, and that some people have been somehow locked out of posting on their own blogs. I'm sure it's all temporary hitches, I just fancy a change...

Moveable Type is as free as WP. I like MT because I have been using it for a while, and it's a good product. So is WP, and I would say when you get back down to it, their is little difference between MT and WP. Although for MT I can get paid support for it, which has proved to be beyond valuable.

Either way you'll still have to pay for hosting, so neither are free from that respect.

okay, now I'm confused. I set up a new Wordpress blog and it looked free... did you mean 'you have the option to pay for hosting'?

(WV: hiasm - invent your own definition)

Annie, as far as I see, it's free. I hope I'm not going to get an invoice at the end of the month. What's your new blog? What's your new blog?

Wordpress is aces. Wordpress.com (the free hosting thingy) seems pretty darn good too.

Sounds like Adrian wasn't aware (same as me) that there was free Wordpress hosting available: he was assuming that you'd have to sort out your own space to put it on, same as Dragon seems to.

BiB, you found it, you little Sherlock you.

Gordon, another vote from someone who Knows...

QE, okay, all is clear now. Thanks for clearing that up. You hear that people? Free hosting from Wordpress! free free free! They're giving them away! Wordpress blogs all round!
