You're right, as always. I too was caned as a child. If you've seen Ken Loach's film Kes, there's a scene when he's been sent to the head's office for the cane and a small child turns up and the head canes him as well just because he's there. Well, that film could have been shot at my school. If you can recall Lynsey Anderson's film 'If' and the shooting scene, well that's how I used to dream my school days would end. With many staff dead. And I was a good boy at school, I was terrified of them and they caned me anyway. Imagine what it must have been like for those who were naughty! So, my joke was in poor taste...
