Failing

'LOSER! You English loser... I suppose he thought it was the most grievous insult he could hurl. But such a curse doesn't really have any effect on an English person - or a European - it seems to me. We know we're all going to lose in the end so it is deprived of any force as a slur. But not in the USA. Perhaps this is the great difference between the two worlds, this concept of Loserdom. In the New World it is the ultimate mark of shame - in the Old it prompts only a wry sympathy.'

Any Human Heart, (one of my favourite books) by William Boyd

I am feeling like a bit of a loser at the moment, like I'm failing on all counts, and find this idea quite comforting*

*Spookily, this post was written before LC launched his shiny new blog - thanks for the link LC, I'm, um, touched...

I don't think you're a loser, Annie. I think you're lovely.

But what the fuck do I know? I got made redundant and slunk off to Bangkok...

Annie,

I too think of you not as a loser but a winner! Okay then, let's review. Annie Slaminsky, successful career woman, teacher, photographer (and very attractive too judging by photos), londoner, ex globetrotter, creater of bespoke Easter Bonnets, quiz mistress, keeper of the key to the cane cupboard (sorry, just remembered they've put a stop to corporal punishment)adviser to those in't north on all things flickr, all round good egg.

so there. And for anyone who disagress I'll fight them behind the bike sheds after school.

xx

Oops, sorry Annie - that was just a bit of test and it wasn't quite ready for public consumption yet, it's gone now.

Believe me, no one's a loser compared to me.

Not that that will make you feel any better about yourself or anything ...

Nonsense, now just you make sure this feeling is a passing phase....

Nobody with a name like Annie Slaminsky could ever be a loser.

beg your pardon LC, I'm a dope. As well as a loser. And a bit pissed.

Betty, I think we should reclaim the word for ourselves. Losers of the world unite!

Greavsie, soz, I did not mean to sound quite so much like Eeyore. I was also meaning it as a quite philosophical post...

Annie - of course I know we Annies are the coolest but I must confess - it’s a name that evolved by itself. My friends call me Annie, my blog is called Slaminsky – online, I started getting called Annie Slaminsky, but it’s not my real name (which only has 2 syllables in the whole thing, bah!)

What the hey, online I am Annie Slaminsky – (just like online, I am a 6 foot tall slim blond rich 22-year-old.)

Blond-&-22, shmond-&-shmenty-shmoo. Where's your Jewfro-pride? And you teach, for fuck's sake, almost every practitioner of which profession deserves a Nobel Prize just for dragging themselves out of bed in the morning. You so win! You win for Hackney!

Now you stop that at once Miss Slaminsky! You are gorgeous and clever and lovely and you like quizzes. You see? Perfect!

PS: do you want to go to new exhib at ICA - photo's from 1978-1988 including early Tillmans!

BiB - ah, thank you! You're right, I'm not a loser,I'm a winner! Queen of the Universe, that's me.

You too, RoMo. Yes yes yes!! Most definitely! Sounds fab, and we can go to their nice bar too. Let me know when you can.

Thanks folks, I'm now officially all cheered up.
