London v London

Maybe I should toss a coin. Or throw a dart at the A-Z.

I live in Wood Green and would like to add "stinky fried chicken shops" and "women in ugly shoes they can't walk in who are taking up the whole pavement and tramping along so slowly you miss your bus despite having said 'excuse me' very clearly THREE DAMN TIMES". I want to move but we're currently paying only £720 a month for a 2-bed house with a garden so it's a bit of a wrench. I'm north every time though I think.

Still on for tomorrow, by the way? Am a bit concerned as to how I will recognise people and avoid asking the entire pub if they blog.

I like both but if forced would probably go North every time.

Ah Violet, I used to live in Wood Green, v near to a football club that you probably don't like very much, am very familiar with its fried chicken shops and ugly shoes. Good deal though! Hang on to it...

Do you... blog? Hahaha! Absolutely! Looking forward to meeting you - I've been there, I didn't know anyone's real names or what they looked like.

Email me and I'll send you a 'lovely' photo (or alternatively, take a look at my Flickr account below the profile, some pictures of me in the Portraits set.)

Was trying to think of something noticeable to have on the pub table, in manner of red carnation in the buttonhole, but can't think of anything big enough to notice which won't make everyone in the pub stare...

Hi RoMo, we crossed in the comments - I thought you might vote for West...

I'd vote for West but that wouldn't be very helpful. I don't know East at all, I like bits of North London.

What about egg cups?? I like egg cups.

I wear green sparkly eye shadow if that helps? And I'll have a really silly flowery bag with me with silver braiding and a patch sewn onto it that says Lady Breakers Have More Fun. BUT - I am mostly always late - so don't count on me. I'll really try to be on time but random things always seem to make me late. x

I have checked out your flickr photos annie so that should help, as should RoMo's rather delightful and individual bag. I have quite vivid short red hair and specs and will be wearing black and muttering darkly about parole clerks, the condemning to malebolge thereof. If it's still this fucking COLD I may break out the leopardy coat.

Stop press - a massive riot with 4 'youths' stabbed round the corner from me in Wood Green, just saw on the news. Explains all the lurking coppers on my road when I got home. I think East has its share too though...

Are you counting "lots of crack houses" as a pro or a con?

I've lived in Stoke Newington in the north, which was really good, and Old Street in the east, which was OK but a bit too close to the bankers for comfort.

I could bring an eggcup. Erm... if I remember.

I'd have to go for North London; lived in Kentish (everyone who lives there drops the 'town'. It's like saying I'm going to Glastonbury without needing to say 'festival'.) and my theatre company's still based there.

I can't make it to the quiz due to work followed by a colleague's birthday drinks. Obviously Billy's got my number if there's a particularly testing question on He-Man or Doctor Who. Best of luck!

I have to say though, if you all bring egg-cups it's likely to look a bit weird. It'll only remain inconspicuous if only the first blogger on the scene puts it out.

Moved to London in 1990 and never lived north of the river. They're all weird there.

But as to Annie's dilemma, I can only say: Japanese fashion students. Yum.

Billy, I like bits of North London, but they seem to be expensive, the bits I like...

Violet - genius. I don't think we have one in the house. Might try and steal one from school. Red hair? Lucky...

And malebolge is the most useful new word I've heard recently, will be applying it in conversation as soon as I can.

Yup, we always have those big yellow signs up around Hackney. Sigh...

RoMo - hurrah, you're coming! I love the idea of Violet going round the pub looking closely into people's eyes to see if they have sparkly green eyesshadow (BTW, please don't take the Stannah Stairlift.)

LC, pro, surely? - I'm sure Hackney Council counts it as one of the diverse recreations on offer in the borough...

I like Stokey a lot, though these days you seem to need one of those 3-wheeled strollers, baby, husband and dog before they let you live there. Old Street - I bet that was interesting.

Billy - let's all bring egg cups!

Corin - I went to school near 'Kentish' we used to nip out to the high street for a sneaky cigarette. The corner shop used to sell a single one to us for 10p at a time.

Yes, good point about the egg-cups. First one there get out the egg-cup.

Tim - 'They're all weird there.' Treading on thin ice - you're talking to a born and bred North Londoner. Be careful or I won't introduce you to any Japanese fashion students.

East London = West Ham United.
There is no other choice my dear. :)

Annie - please do not move North. I like that you are an East End girl. Then you would never be able to "pop" over to burn cd's etc.! Think about it - it totally does not make sense... what about looking further east?? What about South East? I like South now! Leila is south, I work south and am here all the time!
Anyhow - not promising anything but I might come tonight to pub quiz depending on work and the fact I am trying to quit smoking and drinking and need to stay away from pubs in the week. AND I need to mop my floor. How exciting am I.
BS.

There'll always be a Romford! :D

I was always an East London person but only because I couldn't afford North. It all seems bloody expensive to me now though. When we moved here our mortgage dropped but we could fit all our furniture in the hall.

Annie said...

Rad - would you have still talked to me if I'd have moved into those flats opposite the Emirates Stadium? Romford... a lot of key worker schemes seem to be there. Hmmmm.

Bad Sar - that's sweet, but I would as likely move to Timbuktu as South London, especially South East!

Realdoc - you would laugh if you could see some of the cupboards I have seen, and what they're asking for them...

North north north!

Hey Destructor - how are things in sunny Oz? Pah, you don't get to vote because you HEARTLESSLY ABANDONED LONDON for sunnier climes...
