Home

Remember this post? I went to this place today:

to look at these - (my, they pack those key workers into that key worker housing - it's worse than battery hens, and you have to pay a lot for the privilege.)

On the way back, I passed this, and couldn't help sighing over it a bit...

Are there flats at the new stadium or at Higbury? Or both? Anyway, I'm a... no, can't write oddiy backwards on a Jewish blog. And did you knock on the old-fashioned house's neighbours' door and ask them if that one was going for 50p? It probably is going, but for 3 million. Alas.

(Whispers... Over a bottle of wine at dinner today, I mentioned to the Russian that there was a London bloggeress coming to Berlin at some point in April. And then I said I'd even thought of flinging our doors open to her and he said why not, as long as she's not mad and doesn't stay for ever. So, darling, are you mad and would you stay for ever? Perhaps it's a bonkers idea, and what if we hated each other, and would we have to cook kosher - I'm guessing not - and... Well, it's an idea, anyway. I can tell you'd be well-behaved. And there's a double sofabed in the living-room, so it's an option. But maybe you'd rather a hotel.)

Awww, you are a total sweetie - I am very touched - but don't you worry, one strange blogger is one thing, one strange blogger plus friend would be a bit much. Plus I'm now quite into the idea of Circus hotel and reliving my teen years. I will be totally happy to rendezvous with you in a bar of your choice...

These apartments are next to the new stadium - though the old stadium is being turned into flats too, I do believe. There is an estate agent's sign outside the old house, but I daren't phone, as similar ones in the street are going for nearly a million, believe it or not.

Splendid, splendid. And I'm glad The Circus looks up your alley. Will happily drink and smoke galore with you!

If, by some miracle, that run-down house IS going for, say, 60 quid, can I give you 20 when you're here and have the top floor? No, didn't think so...

Ah, the tragedy of real estate in a global city. Sydney's up (down?) there too - Marrickville on a par with Hackney as far as prices go.

Somehow I just can't picture you, much as I can picture anyone I've never met, at one of the little boxy windows of the grey & red building.

So glad you're going to try the circus & hope you won't be disappointed.

It's a deal - you can be the writer in the attic and add some class to the place.

Meredith, I looked at your site and and as far as I'm concerned, the expense in Marrickville is entirely justified by those statues you have over the shopfronts. And by your proximity to that recycling shop... London on the other hand is just mentally insanely expensive these days, and dirty, cold, grey... what am I doing again?

Don't loose hope Annie. I know it might feel quite bleak but the reality is this is a long process and the most stressful one you'll ever make but it's the right one for you.

Good luck Annie - house prices are CRAZY even for derelict properties like the one in the picture. What about a shared ownership scheme?

I had friends in Marrickville - they made so much on their house they could afford a big house with a pool on the gold coast - sick!!
