Etiquette on the internet

Because good manners cost nothing...

Here is what I've learned after nearly 3 years of this nonsense:

Never post private emails on your blog.

Any more rules of etiquette you'd like to share?

Never spit in a man's face unless his moustache is on fire.

Always find time to tell the people you read that you appreciate them.

Always wipe front to back.

KOS - I'll bear that in mind.

Quink - good point - did I ever tell you how much I enjoy your posts? I don't always comment but I'm always reading - especially like your local posts.

Bedshaped - not so much blog etiquette, as general hygiene...

Don't nick pictures.

Don't tussle with oversensitive music journalists.

Don't rise to trollbait.

Don't start a manifesto when you're depressed.

private IM conversations are as unlikely to get a good reaction as private emails, re: posting

Good rules Tim. Aw, don't be depressed. I wish you could come to blogmeets - have you got a web-cam, maybe we could fix something up next time...?

True, Tara, though sometimes I've seen people post them when they've both agreed to it.

If you're not offending anybody, you're doing it wrong.

Be nice about your employers. Someone I know slagged off their company and got the sack as a result. Duh.

And I avoid blogging when drunk or in a bad mood. Not really etiquette, but it tends to solve most ills.

Don't post anything work-related unless it is so heavily disguised no-one at work can recognise it.

Ditto with family-related posts.

I also discovered people at cryptozoology sites are gullible (or at least insufficiently sceptical) and don't like this fact pointed out to them.

Cryptozoology sites? Had I realised they existed (and yes, thinking about it, of course they exist) I would have guessed that they would be peopled by people who don't like to hear about their lack of sensible scepticism.

Love the site btw Annie. I think I may need to start a 'My Name is Earl' style list of people who deserve to hear that.

First visit to your blog and I like very much. Damnit, you're going on my nascent blog roll.

Never reveal a two-timing situation, yours or any others'.

Thanks Radge! Two timing - there's a lot I could say at the moment on the subject - but I won't.

Thanks, QE! That cheers me up considerably.

Del - wise words but just... can't... help... it... grrrrrr...

Llewtrah - ditto.
