You the jury

Last deadline for a submission, people. Email me if you have something. I have only the weekend to do it before the last workshop on Thursday. I'm waking up in the night thinking about fonts, it's not good, so keen to finish it now...

A rough version of the cover. Which one would you prefer?

PS: Is it easy to convert Word documents into PDF files? (this is something I have to do, apparently.)

How can I shrink A4 pages into A3 without making the text too small to read? Oy, it was easier in the days when it was quite literally a cut & paste job, and not on a computer...

Oh blimey - I reckon Magic G is better - easier on the eye and Mix Tape is a bit been there done that seen it before sort of thing. that's not a criticism just an observation. I like Magic G as people will wonder what it means and therefore be more curious.

4 x A4 into A3 is too hard for me to work out because I've already had a glass of wine - the only thing I would say is less on the A4 bit so it is easier to read when it goes to A3? Maybe double-spacing? Does that make sense? I hope so. xx

Can't we type it all out, writing, pictures etc - print it out (like the old days), cut it all up with real scissors (like the old days), glue it onto pieces of A4 so it looks right and then scan it and then print it to A3? A sort of old days meets new days approach...? If it was me - that's how I would do it because I am a bit weird like that.

I like the Magic G one too.

I have written a piece, feel free to use it if there's space. I'm just going to email it to you.

Magic G. Yes.

A4 thing - just make the text vv big. Then it won't be so small when it gets smaller. If you see what I mean.

I remember fanzines that were hand written. I mean, they were photocopied, but the original pages were handwritten.

Do you want something from me? I've been thinking about turning my post about conceptual bands into a full-blown article, but couldn't think of anyone who might want it. Will send it anyway. Your call.

Just went off on one on a music message board about downloads and kids not paying for music. Will try and turn it round into a piece tomorrow get it to you on email.

Rosie, if you get inspired, you could still email something on the weekend, I've got til next Wednesday to put it together...

Tim, something from you would be great. I think I am a bit confused, caught between new style (on computers, but lacking knowledge of publishing software, layout etc) and old school cut and paste.

Del, hurrah! You are an angel. I bet your piece will make me feel v guilty.

will do. want it on anything in particular? (my specialist subjects are boys and hangovers, but i could probably stretch to something more suitable)

I only produce PDFs every blue moon and do so online using PDF995. There're also freeware versions available but I don't know any specific ones.

http://www.pdf995.com/

It works and is easy - though you have to be online.

It's not just music is it? Can we do other stuff too?

Rosie, I scribbled down these notes in the workshop music, line drawings, Hackney, photography, graphics, typography, my favourite writers, graffitti/street art around Brick Lane, comic strip? cartoons Penguin covers laundrettes - any of those, but it's fairly flexible - it's mainly music but you can write about anything that amuses you or you feel passionate about.

RoMo, you most certainly can. Hit me with it! Your Iggy article is looking good..

Thank you Alan, that's very helpful.

If you all can get stuff to me by Sunday evening at the latest that would be great, as it takes a while to put it together. Then I have to 'borrow' the photocopier at work (in true fanzine stylee) and as you can imagine, the photocopier at work is very, very popular and it's hard sneaking in there to do my own thing...

Also I'm having problems with a disk drive with CD burner as mine has bust - anybody have one that I could borrow?

Just occurred to me, we're missing gig reviews. Can we get away without them? (The last one I went to was the Raveonettes with Em in Barcelona, but I didn't have my Music Hack head on and all I could write is 'It was nice. I enjoyed it.') If anyone has seen a band recently, or knows of anyone who'd like to contribute gig reviews, get in touch pronto...

If it's any good to you, you're quite welcome to plunder and edit this, but it's not exactly recent. There's also a link in that post which will take you to some more photos that you can use. Feel free to take what you want if you think it's worth while.

I've got my motorhead in bullet points one I could edit slightly and the picture of me (not really) with pixellated face sitting on Lemmy's knee? It's about 8 months old though.

Annie said...

Thanks, Istvanski. We MUST have Tits of Death!

Ah, thank you RoMo. I forgot too, your Iggy Pop piece was a review - Motorhead would be great, though maybe for the next one, as it would be good to have more of a balance of vintage and new... Most of it is about music with its heyday in the 70s at the moment...

Yes - we need to get more au fait with the popular beat combo's of today don't we? the only one I know in the top 10 is Adele - booooooor-ing! I had an idea about a tiny thing about audio cassettes - seeing as one features on the cover...I read recently that Nick Cave tapes all his new ideas on tape cassette still - I found that very pleasing for some reason.

Del said...

Feel free to nick Glasvegas off of my blog. Or I can expand it tomorrow evening. I saw The Hold Steady and Underworld this week, and Art Brut a couple of weeks back if they're any use.

Also got a CD/DVD Writer if you need it. Email me.

Annie said...

RoMo - great - we need some little pieces too, and something on cassettes would be perfect.

Del, yes yes yes! You are a life-saver.

I'm going to see if we've got one at work, if not I'll be emailing you...

Darling, can't contribute anything more than my heartfelt encouragement. Hope it all works brilliantly well. (Have you managed to save word docs as PDFs? Do you have Adobe? There's a simple convert option.)

rockmother said...

Word > pdf is easypeasy. Save your Word doc and go to print. On the bottom LH corner you will see a button marked pdf. Click this and it will give you the option to save a copy of the word doc as a pdf.

Rosie said...

so sorry, Annie, stayed out too late and drank too much and didn't get to write anything for you after all. next time?

Annie said...

No, have downloaded something called Primo PDF - if it doesn't work, I shall cry. Honestly, it would have been easier to hand-write the entire fucker.

Don't you worry Rosie - how polite of you to let me know anyway! Next time for sure (though I may be handing on the editorial baton on the next one...)

If it doesn't, you could mail them to me (or someone who's allowed to see the docs) and I could convert them for you in half a second and send them back. That would work, wouldn't it?

rockmother said...

Yes - me too - I sent you a mail last night. Send ot to me as a .doc and I can convert in three secs and mail it back to you xx
