Fugly

Men, look away now. This post will bore you into a coma, or else make your eyes melt down your face in tedium (like in Raiders of the Lost Ark when they open the ark and the Holy Ghost comes out.)

Ladies, I have a shoe dilemma - I bought a 'vintage' dress for lovely SparkleyC's wedding in August and now I cannot find the right shoe, I have a Platonic vision of the shoe but I cannot find the shoe in reality. It is red suede with a heel, very possibly a wedge, possibly a sandal. But it is nowhere to be found. And in my search I came across the fugliest shoe I have ever seen. Here, I will share this vision of fugliness with you: (look quickly, it might hurt your eyes) - here it is. Whatever happened to Red or Dead? I used to like them.

Remedial cork wedge. Not good.

What length, style and material/colour of dress by the way? And top tip: take your dress with you when shopping for shoes.

Hmmmm? Yes. Very nice, dear.

Can we go now?

Remedial! that's exactly it!

It is a kind of fifties style dress to below the knee, red blue and green, with big flowers, I think the material is called devore . Actually it sounds revolting!

Tim, you have NO IDEA how important these things are.

I'll be in that bookshop over the road.

(I've had practice.)

Annie, have you tried Hobbs for shoes? They have window displays of 50s-style clothes right now, I think. Oh heck, I don't know - I only buy smart shoes about once every 10 years! Ignore me!

(Your dress sounds lovely, though)

Being from the 1970's and the Midlands, I can assure you that those t-bar shoes could've been bought for about £3.99 on Cannock market in 1975 - you could probably have got the same style in yellow for good measure. Mind you, Wayne Hemingway of Red Or Dead is about the same age as me, so he probably has the same unpleasant flashbacks.

Good place for disgusting cheesecloth tops with flea infestations too, Cannock market ...

eww

I would have thought that Office would have something suitable.

Second GSEon the Office front, v. good for shoes.
That shoe looks like the kind of thing that would have been worn by the sort of girl who sported a very fat tie at school. (I was in the very skinny tie brigade)

Believe it or not - New Look are good for shoes or Topshop. Office definately or Bertie. Or - dare I say it House of Fraser!

Tim, TopShop used to have a kind of creche for husbands and boyfriends, with computer games and comfy sofas...

Thanks Marsha - Marsha, you're so right, I saw the perfect shoes there, but only in purple. Bah.

Sarah, don't encourage my Kurt Geiger habit! It's worse than smack!

Betty, ooh, cheesecloth! I am a fan of Wayne, he is one of those terribly camp straight men.

GSE, I will try Office, they are generally the best at offering a range...

Realdoc, I bet you were too cool for school.

RoMo, yes I want to check out Lily Allen's shoes (in New Look - I'm not going to mug Lily Allen or anything.)

Thanks ladies! I love the enthusiasm with which you tackled this.

RoMo, Bad Sar, it's ruinous for the bank balance.
