Retirement

If you stopped blogging, would you delete everything or leave it hanging around in cyberspace for the random passing visitor?

(I'm not thinking about it, I'm just curious about those that have fallen by the wayside.)

I left mine up. Still quite proud of what I wrote back in the day even though I don't have the urge to write again at the minute.

i'd keep it, but just for me. i'd hate to see all of those hours work wasted.

Delete it.

For kicks, like.

I'd leave it hanging around.

Never had a reason to delete it, so not blogging wouldn't change that,

well, this is a real question regarding the old blog. What I'm planning to do is to copy it all into hard copy and then print it up on Lulu just for me so I can reread it when I'm old and decrepit. The blog itself will be deleted eventually - I think it could be quite a thrill, pushing the delete blog button.

Ooh, that's an interesting one.
If I stopped because I felt like I'd said enough, then I think I'd just leave it there.
But, if I stopped blogging because I'd lost my anonymity, then I'd hit the delete button quicker than you could say "Hey bedsh...."

I'd get Will Self to rewrite the whole thing, to make myself seem rather more intelligent and sexually alluring. For posterity, like.

Scorched earth. Shred the manuscripts. Delete the back catalogue. Burn the negatives. Destroy the masters.

If I was going to leave it behind, I'd burn my bridges so that the only way would be forward.

This is all too answered for me I am afraid. I left it.

Hi US *waves*

Rosie - right, though there is something sad and lonely about an unvisited blog.

Billy - harsh, but bold.

Adrian - lots of people seem to be abandoning their blogs for Facebook.

GSE - nooooo!

Will it copy the comments across? For me it's all about the comments.

Bedshaped, me too. I don't know why though, there is nothing truly offensive or personal here.

Tim, good plan. I'd get Nancy Mitford to make myself seem more witty and cosmopolitan, (if she wasn't dead.)

Del, how could you?

Destructor, I've seen you drop in for the odd sneaky post...

I've deleted a couple of blogs, but not before copying the content to my hard drive. I doubt I'll ever glance at them again, but I'm a word hoarder.

I know a guy who wiped his archive purely because anything he'd written more than a few days ago was automatically out of date. Which I can also relate to. Confliiiiict.

what he said. hoard your words.

I kept a few posts for myself and then pressed delete.

I'd rather delete my Facebook than delete my blog.

I'd leave mine because I really like re-reading old comments threads; they always make me laugh.

I think it would depend on the circumstances of retirement. I think, like Rosie, I would keep it for me and if necessary lock the site.

If I really really really wanted to stop I'd have to delete it. But yeah, what a waste.

But I'll never stop blogging so this answer is irrelevant anyway.

I can't see myself being decisive enough to say "right that's it." I tend to just drift away from things.
